This article, published by the New York Times in November of 2011, explores the reasons why so many students are switching from STEM majors to "softer" majors. Along with alarming statistics and examination of the failures within higher education's approaches to STEM education, this article also presents possible solutions to help retain STEM majors, including project-based learning models and a shift in focus from theory to practical application.
